/// King Performance Race Series shocks are built from the same materials and tolerances as the King race series shocks.
/// Smooth body shocks are hydraulic dampers designed to control suspension movement by precisely regulating hydraulic oil flow to control compression and rebound damping, improving vehicle stability, suspension control, and tire contact across changing terrain.
/// Coilover shocks utilize the same damping system while incorporating an adjustable coil spring assembly to support vehicle weight, establish ride height, and provide suspension preload. The shock controls suspension movement, while the coil spring supports the vehicle.
/// Remote and piggyback reservoirs increase hydraulic oil volume while utilizing a floating dividing piston to separate the hydraulic oil from a high-pressure nitrogen charge. Typically set to 150 PSI with the shock at full extension, the nitrogen charge maintains positive pressure within the hydraulic system, compensates for piston rod displacement during compression, and helps minimize oil aeration and cavitation for consistent damping performance.
/// Shock body diameter directly influences piston area, hydraulic oil volume, overall damping capacity, and thermal capacity. Larger shock bodies provide greater damping force, improved heat capacity, and enhanced thermal stability during prolonged or aggressive use. Selecting the proper shock diameter ensures damping performance is appropriately matched to the vehicle's weight, suspension travel, and intended application.
/// King Compression Adjuster provides external adjustment of compression damping without changing the shock's primary valve tuning. A dedicated compression circuit meters hydraulic oil flow into the reservoir, allowing compression damping to be precisely adjusted with the turn of a knob.
Lower settings allow more oil to bypass the metering piston for a more compliant suspension response, while higher settings progressively direct more oil through the metering piston, increasing compression damping, improving chassis control, and providing greater resistance to suspension impacts.
Compression adjustment functions only during the compression stroke, while rebound oil returns through the shock's primary rebound circuit. This one-way hydraulic circuit helps maintain positive oil pressure, reducing the likelihood of cavitation during aggressive suspension use.
/// KING INTERNAL BYPASS (IBP) IS A POSITION-SENSITIVE DAMPING SYSTEM INTEGRATED WITHIN THE SHOCK BODY. A DEDICATED RIDE VALVE CHAMBER, CONTAINING ITS OWN COMPRESSION AND REBOUND VALVE STACKS, OPERATES ALONGSIDE THE PRIMARY PISTON AND VALVE STACK TO MODIFY HYDRAULIC OIL FLOW THROUGHOUT THE SHOCK'S TRAVEL.
DURING NORMAL SUSPENSION MOVEMENT, HYDRAULIC OIL FLOWS THROUGH BOTH THE PRIMARY PISTON AND THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER. THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER PROVIDES A SECONDARY FLOW PATH THROUGH THE SHOCK'S HOLLOW SHAFT, WHERE ITS COMPRESSION AND REBOUND VALVE STACKS CONTRIBUTE TO THE SHOCK'S OVERALL DAMPING CHARACTERISTICS.
AS THE SHOCK COMPRESSES, THE SHAFT MOVES OVER A FIXED TAPERED METERING ROD LOCATED IN THE TOP CAP. THE TAPERED ROD PROGRESSIVELY RESTRICTS THE OPENING AT THE END OF THE HOLLOW SHAFT, REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF OIL FLOWING THROUGH THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER. AS THIS FLOW IS RESTRICTED, AN INCREASING PORTION OF THE HYDRAULIC OIL IS DIVERTED THROUGH THE PRIMARY PISTON AND VALVE STACK, RESULTING IN A PROGRESSIVE INCREASE IN DAMPING AS THE SHOCK APPROACHES THE END OF ITS COMPRESSION STROKE.
THE LENGTH OF THE METERING ROD DETERMINES WHERE THIS TRANSITION BEGINS WITHIN THE SHOCK'S TRAVEL, WHILE THE ROD'S TAPER CONTROLS HOW GRADUALLY THE FLOW IS TRANSFERRED FROM THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER TO THE PRIMARY PISTON. THIS ALLOWS THE POSITION-SENSITIVE DAMPING CHARACTERISTICS TO BE TUNED INDEPENDENTLY OF THE PRIMARY PISTON VALVING.
DURING REBOUND, THE PROCESS REVERSES AS THE SHAFT MOVES AWAY FROM THE TAPERED METERING ROD. THE OPENING AT THE END OF THE HOLLOW SHAFT IS PROGRESSIVELY RESTORED, INCREASING FLOW THROUGH THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER WHILE REDUCING THE PROPORTION OF OIL PASSING THROUGH THE PRIMARY PISTON. BOTH THE PRIMARY PISTON AND THE RIDE VALVE CHAMBER CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THEIR RESPECTIVE REBOUND DAMPING THROUGHOUT THE SHOCK'S RETURN STROKE.
INTERNAL BYPASS PROVIDES POSITION-SENSITIVE DAMPING WITHIN THE COMPACT PACKAGE OF A CONVENTIONAL MONOTUBE SHOCK BODY. BY INTEGRATING A SECONDARY VALVING SYSTEM INSIDE THE SHOCK, IT ACHIEVES MANY OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EXTERNAL BYPASS SHOCK WITHOUT THE NEED FOR EXTERNAL BYPASS TUBES.
